RUSSIAN OPPOSITION - 2023 Part 1 Classification of the Russian Opposition in Russia and Abroad
The spectrum of the contemporary Russian opposition is very broad. It ranges from its radical wing, desiring the overthrow of the power of the security forces and the disintegration of Russia, to entirely fictitious structures created by the Kremlin and the FSB (KGB) themselves. It includes groups that continue to exist (survive) within Russia and the emigration scattered across various parts of the world.
To achieve a relatively precise classification of opposition groups and individual figures, several criteria can be used:
1. Degree of recognition of the current authorities as criminal:
A - Advocating for their removal and prosecution.
B - Advocating for the removal of only Putin and his inner circle.
C - Advocating for reform and improvement of the current government.
2. Attitude toward the future structure of Russia:
A - Demanding disintegration.
B - Demanding federalization or confederation of Russia.
C - Advocating for the preservation of a unified state.
3. Attitude toward the war in Ukraine:
A - Full support for Ukraine.
B - Support for Ukraine and hope for a positive change within Russia, sympathy for it (the "our guys" concept).
C - External stance on the war, condemnation of war in principle, and calls for peace.
D - Calls for peace and condemnation of both sides of the "conflict."
